  17. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before 
  18. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, 
  19. you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on 
  20. details -- some request registration while others require it, some 
  21. specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get 
  22. anything from the simple right to continue using the software to 
  23. an updated program with printed manual.

  25. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, 
  26. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific 
  27. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished 
  28. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of 
  29. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and 
  30. bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. 
  31. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute 
  32. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For 
  33. example, some authors require written permission before a 
  34. commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  37. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether 
  38. it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting 
  39. your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because 
  40. the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the 
  41. ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you 
  42. don't pay for it.

  51. without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of
  52. fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for
  53. damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of
  54. 'The Psychedelic Screen Saver'."

  56. 'The Psychedelic Screen Saver' is a "shareware program" and is
  57. provided at no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to 
  58. share it with your friends, but please do not give it away altered 
  59. or as part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported"

  61. software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for

  65. reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of 
  66. $20 to NorthStar Solutions.  The $20 registration fee will license 
  67. one copy for use on any one computer at any one time.  You must 
  68. treat this software just like a book.  An example is that this 
  69. software may be used by any number of people and may be freely 
  70. moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no 
  71. possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used 
  72. at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons 
  73. at the same time.

  76. and pay for their copies of 'The Psychedelic Screen Saver' within 
  77. 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.

  82. Registration is easy!  Just press the "REGISTER" button in the Psychedelic 
  83. Screen Saver configuration dialog and follow the instructions. If you'd 
  84. rather avoid the registration wizard, you can find all the information
  85. needed to register in the file "ORDERFRM.TXT" in the directory where you 
  86. installed Psych.
